Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how 2502957 ALBERTA LTD. ("we", "us", "Swipelis") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Swipelis mobile app (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and are stored only in a hashed, non-reversible form — we never see or store your plain-text password.
Marketing emails. When you create an account you can tick an optional box to receive occasional learning tips and product updates from Swipelis by email. We only send these if you opted in, we record when you did, and you can stop them at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to support@swipelis.com. Account emails (such as the email that confirms your sign-up) are sent regardless, because the service needs them.
Learning data. To save your progress and sync it across devices, we store the settings and progress you make in the App on your account: your main language, the language you are learning, your daily goal, your onboarding choices, your streaks (including which days you practised), your word history (which words you got right or wrong), your place in each difficulty, and the time you practised.
Your first name. During onboarding we ask what to call you (any first name or nickname works). We use it to greet you in the App. It is stored on your device and, if you create an account or sign in, on our servers. You can change it on the Profile page.
Requests you send us. If you use Leave a Request in the App, we store your message and, if you include one, your email address, so we can reply to you.
On-device data. App settings and your learning progress (streaks, word history, deck position, daily-goal progress) are stored locally on your device. If you use the App without an account, this learning progress stays on your device (apart from the usage data described below) and is synced to your account only if you later create an account or sign in.
Install identifier. The App generates a random identifier when it is first installed. It is not your name, email, Apple ID, or Google account, and it does not identify you across other apps, but it lets us count installs and group the usage data below by install. It is shared with the analytics providers named in Section 5.
Automatically collected. Lesson videos are delivered through a content-delivery network (Cloudflare R2). To deliver content and process the data described in this policy, standard technical information such as your device's IP address is processed by the network and by the service providers named in Section 5, as with any website or streaming service.
Usage data. Whether or not you have an account, we collect information about how you use the App — such as which screens you open, your answers to the onboarding questions (earlier versions of the App also asked for your age range and gender, if you chose to give them), which lesson cards you answer and whether you answered correctly, quiz results, and purchase events — to understand how the App is used and to improve it. This is processed by us (in our secure backend) and by the analytics providers named in Section 5, keyed to the install identifier above (and to your account if you are signed in).
Diagnostics. If the App crashes or hangs, we collect a technical crash report (such as the type of error, your iOS or Android version, and the App version) so we can find and fix the problem.
We do not use this data for third-party advertising, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
2. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account.
- To save your progress and sync it between your devices.
- To operate, maintain, and improve the App.
- To understand how the App is used (usage analytics) so we can make it better.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
3. Text-to-speech
Words and sentences are read aloud using your device's built-in text-to-speech (Apple's on iPhone, your device's text-to-speech engine on Android). We do not receive the audio.
4. Subscriptions and payments
If you purchase a subscription, payment is processed by Apple through the App Store (on iPhone) or by Google through Google Play (on Android). We never receive or store your payment card details. We do receive a record of your purchase (which plan, and a transaction number), which we use to understand how subscriptions are used and, if you are signed in, to link your subscription to your account so we can help you with it. The paid features themselves are unlocked by Apple or Google on your device. Apple's or Google's handling of your purchase is governed by that company's own privacy policy.
5. Service providers
We use the following providers, which process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Supabase — authentication, and storage of your account, learning data, usage data, and support requests.
- Google Workspace — delivery of account emails such as sign-up confirmations (your email address is processed to send them).
- Cloudflare — delivery of lesson videos and hosting of these pages.
- Mixpanel — usage analytics (the events described in Section 1, keyed to the install identifier).
- RevenueCat — subscription analytics (purchase and subscription-status events, keyed to the install identifier).
- Apple — payment processing for subscriptions on iPhone (see Section 4).
- Google Play — payment processing for subscriptions on Android (see Section 4).
6. Data retention
We keep your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. Usage analytics and diagnostics (Section 1), including copies of onboarding answers, are deleted within 24 months of being collected. When you delete your account, your account and profile data (including your streaks and word history) are deleted, and your name, onboarding answers, streaks, word history and other progress are also removed from your device (your language and daily-goal settings stay so you can keep using the App). Analytics records are unlinked from your account and email but stay under the random install identifier until they are deleted as above. Requests you sent us through Leave a Request (with any email address in them) and emails you exchanged with us are deleted within 24 months of your last message; email us to delete them sooner. Sign-in security logs are deleted within 12 months. Records of purchases (plan, dates, transaction number) are kept up to 7 years for tax and accounting. You can request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 8).
7. Children's privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights & contact
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account and its associated data directly within the App, or by contacting us. To exercise any of these rights, or for any privacy question, contact us at support@swipelis.com.
9. International users & data transfers
Swipelis is operated from Canada. Wherever you live, your information may be stored and processed in Canada, the United States, or other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have data-protection laws different from those in your country. Where required, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives an adequate level of protection.
Depending on your country or region — including the European Union and United Kingdom (GDPR), California (CCPA/CPRA), Australia, and others — you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, delete, export, or object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. We honour these rights regardless of where you live. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. To make a request, contact us at support@swipelis.com.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
